Make your Holidays fun

Have you ever thought about what you could do to make school holidays a lot more fun? If you have OR haven’t read on - I will explain things that you can try out for your next school holidays. They don’t have to be a bore - time to turn it around!

One thing for sure is that mum and dad will have a list for us kids to work through. It’s the list of chores! At first we thought - ‘Stink!’ We wanted to sleep in longer and definitely not be doing chores. However we quickly learned that if we worked together - early in the day, then we have so much more time to relax, play games and have fun! I mention ‘early’ in the day as we had previously left things to the very last minute - before our parents got home. This never worked well. Our parents could tell that things were rushed and so the list of chores for the next day seemed to grow! So doing chores together and early in day ensures more time to play!

Now that the chores are out of the way - some fun activities we need to think about.  One I love - is a bit of cooking! That’s right - breakfast time! Without your parents home you can make toast and eggs, chucking in a extra amount of things because mum and dad are not there to see!   Having a little more breakfast than usual helps you get through the day better - not having to stop for lunch too - you can keep playing through!

Another fun activity that doesn’t cost - is simply hanging out with your neighbours for a bit of backyard (or front yard) sport.   Cricket was my favourite with my older brother and neighbours. There’s always a lot of laughter, some tense moments when wickets are lost and a lot of good company!  Be careful though to move the cricket pitch often as to not wear out parts of dad’s lawn! This was one thing we got plenty growling about!

A final idea I want to share is how to make your online gaming time a bit more fun.  When you have siblings - well you’re going to have the job of sharing the game console.  So what my family did was ins and outs. One game on and one game off. When you were on - the others had a board game or fun movie to watch.  Just make sure everyone is honest and gets off once they’re done. This can work really well! Turn taking is a great way to share the fun.

So there you go - some good ideas to try out in your next school holiday.  Remember, get the important jobs like chores done - first before the fun games.  Also when you’re in the fun games, laugh heaps, take turns and be good at keeping the time (before mum and dad return!).  Happy holidays all!

In the holidays we could go to your friends house and pick them up and go pokemon hunt. You could make slime that would be fun or even  play outside is fun.

Another way to make your holidays a bit more fun is do anything your parents want and then they will take you anywhere you want to go.

You could clean your room and then go play at your friends house
Or even go to on your ipad and play online games.  Or you could even clean when your parents are at work and do the dishes and everything that needs to be done and then your parent will give you money to you.

When you get the money from your parents you could save it up until you got enough to go rainbows end and go anywhere you like.

Teacher's Going On Strike

1.More time to teach? Strike! Strike! Strike! It was time for the teachers to stand up and speak up. It was the first time in 24 years that teachers finally got the chance to go on strike which is happening on Wednesday 15th August 2018. My literacy teacher Mrs Tele’a, had told us that they were going to talk about 3 main points of why they are going on strike. Teachers need more time to teach us because they are more focused on doing work on their laptops and doing more paper work instead of spending time with us by helping us improve.

 2. Resourcing for additional needs? Teachers are also in need of additional needs because they sometimes don’t have the resources they want to help us improve in our learning. This is a important piece in our learning and if teachers don’t have the right resources to help us, then how are we supposed to learn from our mistakes? They also need extra help with those who have special needs as they also want to learn too. Education is very important for us because without it, we won’t have a future. Teachers are the key to us growing and becoming responsible students who want to achieve their goals.

 3. Better pay. Teachers need more pay for the skills they use because they too also need to pay bills and other payments for their daily lives. In my opinion, this is a “Labour of Love” says Mrs Tele’a. What she means is yes, teaching is their passion as they do want to share their knowledge with us, but they also need to earn for their living and teaching isn’t an easy task. That’s why teachers need more money because the pay doesn’t look decent enough.

In conclusion, I support the strike because teachers are really important as they are our biggest supporters when it comes to learning. I also think that they are putting in extra hours for us to gain good knowledge for our future. I am for the strike!

My letter to Nicholas

Dear Room 3,

My name is Nicolas Lei. I hope you are all well and excited to start another new year at Pt. England School. This is my first year at Ferguson Intermediate and I am year 7. I am writing this letter to you all because I know most of you are a similar age as me and I need your help! Someone told me that you are a smart group of students, so I look forward to hearing from you.

As a new student, I am learning a lot of new routines and rules. I am enjoying my time here, however, there is one thing that I detest and that is our school uniform! At my old school, we wore mufti which was awesome because I got to choose what I wanted to wear everyday. Now that I am at Ferguson, I have to wear the same thing every day like everyone else. It bothers me because I don’t think it’s fair that I have to wear a school uniform. This makes me want to move schools.

I know that you wear a school uniform too, right? How do you feel about that? Do you think all schools should wear uniform? Please tell me why you think schools should or should not wear uniform so I can make a decision on whether to stay here at Ferguson or move back to my old school. Please write back to me soon.

Kind regards,

Nicolas Lei, Year 7
